Andhra Pradesh: TIDCO Housing Issues to Be Solved Soon, Says Minister

Vijayawada: Municipal Administration P. Narayana has promised to resolve the issues of TIDCO houses and their beneficiaries soon.

Replying to questions from Tirumala Naidu and Duvvarapu Rama Rao in the legislative council here on Wednesday, the minister said the previous government had raised loans of Rs 5,546.48 crore from various agencies.

But it reduced the number for construction of TIDCO houses to 2,61,660 houses even as the state’s first Telugu Desam government had obtained permission from the Centre for construction of seven lakh houses. That time, the TD government had given administrative sanction for the erection of five lakh houses, he said.

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, he said, had ordered construction of TIDCO houses on the lines of gated communities and use of high-end technology for these constructions during the 2014-19m term. “We constructed houses with the main door with teak wood and provided a stainless steel sink and other amenities. However, the next government created hurdles in the scheme.

He said the government was expected to give back Rs 349 crore to 2, 61,590 beneficiaries as the YSRC government had promised to reduce the quantum of payment to the government for sanction of houses. “Though 77,606 beneficiaries availed bank loans of Rs 2,275.24 crore, some 40,571 beneficiaries were not allotted the houses. Meanwhile, the bankers were asking the beneficiaries to pay their EMIs for the loan availed.”

The minister said the contractors’ bills worth Rs 540 crore were pending while the YSR Congress government spent Rs 300 crore to change the colours of the TIDCO houses.

“Now, it would cost Rs 5,200 crore to develop amenities at the TIDCO houses,” he told the legislative council.
