Andhra Pradesh To Conduct 47 Types of Medical Tests to 57 Lakh People

Health screening involves a cost of Rs 163 crore

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government would take up health screening of select people through 47 types of medical tests in two months, with a view to initiating steps for prevention of diseases.

The aim is to conduct tests on around 57 lakh persons at a cost of Rs 163 crore per annum in the state.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had held out a promise to assess the health condition of the people and take preventive measures to control diseases. Following this, health minister Satya Kumar Yadav initiated the process for this on Wednesday.

Accordingly, people infected with diseases or are vulnerable for diseases as per the non-communicable diseases’ survey done earlier and also students staying in the welfare hostels, will be encouraged to undergo the medical tests.

The health department would field 104 mobile medical units to conduct 47 types of medical tests. These include liver-related (8 units), urine analysis-6, lipid profile-5, white blood cells count-5, red blood cells count-5, electrolyte tests-4, renal function test-3, glucose tests-3, coagulation tests-2, ESR-1, etc.

The minister said the tests would help the authorities find out the health condition of the citizens and help generate disease profiles and electronic health records, so as to take steps to control diseases under the Sanjeevini scheme.

In the first phase of the programme meant for five years, 904 vehicles of 104 mobile medical units would conduct 47 types of medical tests with each MMU for 20 persons per day with a total of 520 persons in 26 working days a month.
