Vijayawada: Two persons died when a speeding lorry laden with cement hit them on Atkuru national highway in Unguturu of Krishna district. The two deceased have been identified as Pallapu Durga Rao and Pogusetty Chaitanya Sri Sai, natives of Palnadu and Eluru districts.
According to Atkuru sub-inspector A. Pydi Babu, the accident took place at around 3 am on Tuesday at Atkuru village flyover when the deceased Pallapu Durga Rao’s vehicle laden with tomato load was punctured and Chaitanya Sri Sai who is the driver of another vehicle stopped his van to help Durga Rao to fix his van puncture.
“While the two drivers stopped their vehicles to fix the punctured tyre, a speeding lorry hit them killing Durga Rao on the spot while Chaitanya Sri Sai died on the way while being shifted to Vijayawada government hospital,” Pydi Babu said. A case under Section 304(A) of IPC has been registered and the two bodies have been sent to the government hospital for postmortem.
