Andhra University launches online MA program in Pali and Buddhist studies
Visakhapatnam: Andhra University inaugurated its online Master of Arts (MA) program in Pali and Buddhist Studies on Saturday. The ceremony took place in the Executive Council Hall and was attended by dignitaries, academic leaders, and scholars from both Andhra University and Sri Jayewardenepura University in Sri Lanka.
The event featured Senior Prof. Pathmalal Manage, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, as the chief guest. He commended Andhra University's initiative in developing this collaborative program and emphasized the relevance of the two-year MA in Pali and Buddhist Studies to contemporary society.
Prof. Kishor Babu, the In-charge Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, presided over the inauguration and discussed the significance of the joint program. He was joined by Prof. Narasimha Rao, Principal of Arts and Commerce College, and Prof. K. Ramesh Babu, Head of the Department of Yoga and Consciousness, who highlighted the increasing popularity and importance of this academic offering.
Ven. Prof. Madagoda Abhaya Tissa spoke about the program's role in fostering cross-cultural exchange and preserving Buddhist heritage. His insights were complemented by Ven. Madagampiye Vijitha Mamma Thero, who elaborated on the curriculum's structure and its relevance to modern Buddhist studies.
Former Registrar V. Krishna Mohan emphasized the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Andhra University and Sri Jayewardenepura University, noting its role in enhancing collaboration under the New Education Policy-2020 framework.
The program was coordinated by Professor Thakshila from the Department of Yoga and Consciousness, who ensured that all arrangements were made for its successful implementation over the next four semesters.
