AP BJP Chief D. Purandeswari Opens Door to New Members
Vijayawada: AP BJP chief D. Purandeswari on thursday said whoever agrees with their party’s ideology is welcome to join the Dharatiya Janata Party.
Speaking to media persons at Guntur on the sidelines of Kisan Morcha state executive committee meeting, she, however, ruled out the proposal of two MPs who quit YSR Congress party to join the BJP.
The BJP chief clarified that if any leaders intend to join BJP, party leaders at several levels will discuss whether they could be admitted. The new entrants will be allowed to join BJP, provided they work for the party, complying with its norms.
She announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch BJP’s membership drive nation-wide on September 2. The PM would register his name first to mark the launch of BJP’s membership drive.
Purandeswari called upon party leaders to work hard and enrol more people to work for BJP in AP, which currently has 35–36 lakh members in the state, against the national-level membership of 18 crore.
On the proposed filling up of nominated posts in AP, she said talks are in progress within the NDA partners to finalise the party nominees for these posts.
The AP BJP chief lashed out at I.N.D.I.A. block accusing it of launching a misinformation campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the last elections. The block spread fear among people that if BJP is elected to power, it would change the Indian Constitution and even lift reservations. Their party’s winning streak had thus come down by 50–60 seats in the Lok Sabha, she pointed out.
Purandeswari asserted that BJP is committed to SC categorisation. She reiterated that the centre will also develop AP industrially and complete the Polavaram project.
