AP celebrates Maha Shivaratri as state festival at Kotappakonda

VIJAYAWADA: State government celebrated Maha Shivaratri as the state festival atop the Kotappakonda on Wednesday with fervour and gaiety.

Thousands of devotees, women and youth from AP, Telangana and adjacent states started having the darshan of Trikoteswara Swamy from early morning.
Police department made extensive arrangements for security. RTC operated 565 buses from Narasaraopeta, Chilakaluripeta and Vinukonda to the temple.

Special rituals began as early as 3 a.m., following which devotees could have their darshan of the God. Twenty-three large Prabhalu (chariots) with electric lights and smaller ones could be seen on the festival grounds, creating a mesmerising atmosphere. The entire temple premises brightened up with illuminated lights on the Shivaratri night.

Union minister P. Chandrasekhar, Tiruvuru MLA Kolikapudi Srinivasa Rao, Chilakaluripeta MLA Prathipati Pulla Rao, and government chief whip G.V. Anjaneyulu performed special poojas for the deity.

Narasaraopeta MLA Dr. Chadalawada Aravind, along with his family, arrived at the Kotappakonda Trikoteswar Temple. Priests blessed them with ceremonial water and gave them the sacred prasadam. Former MLA Makkena Mallikarjun Rao, BJP leader Yarlagadda Lenin and others participated.

A drone being used by police for security purposes malfunctioned and crashed into electric wires. A transformer caught fire as a result. Fortunately, there were no people near the transformer at the time of the incident.

District SP Kanchi Srinivasa Rao expressed relief over no person being injured in the fire accident.
