AP CM Deposits Rs 602 Crore as Relief to Four Lakh Victims

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has deposited a sum of Rs 602 crore as flood relief to about four lakh people affected by the recent Budameru floods.

Naidu said the loss from the calamity was estimated at Rs 7,600 crore. Naidu said the recent deluge was unprecedented, including cyclones, and it caused severe loss to both public and private assets.

The chief minister said on Wednesday, that flood relief for those who suffered heavy losses in the recent cyclone was distributed to the victims in a record time of 15 days.

Maintaining that the state has suffered a total loss of Rs 7,600 crore due to the recent cyclonic storm, the CM handed over formal letters to the flood victims on the relief distributed to them at the district collectorate in Vijayawada.

Naidu told the media that besides extending relief to the Budameru flood victims, such help was also credited to the personal accounts of the other affected persons to an extent of Rs 602 crore.

He said flood victims who have not received the compensation on Wednesday would be paid the relief in the next five days.

Naidu said each affected district had been given Rs 3 crore each to take up emergency works and directed the officials to take up relief works with immediate effect.

"Overnight, we got six NDRF teams, 100 power boats and helicopters from the Centre. We have pressed into service 120 boats and 150 drones," Naidu said.

The CM said a record amount of donations of `400 crore was received for the CM’s Relief Fund.

Stating that 17,000 assistance applications have been received in the past two days, of which 4,000 were found to be duplicates. The remaining 14,000 applications will be processed. “The eligible will get the relief and the reasons will be explained to those who have not received it,” Naidu added.
