AP CM to visit Polavaram on November 27
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is visiting the Polavaram irrigation project at Polavaram in Eluru district on November 27, said K. Narasimha Murthy, Polavaram chief engineer. The CM will inspect the ongoing works at the project site and will review the progress of the project works with the officials.
As the construction works on a new diaphragm wall begin in January 2025, the authorities are developing a platform with soil on either side, at the place where the D-wall will be constructed, to enable the heavy machines to stand and work for the D-wall. The water resources department authorities are also taking up ground improvement works in the balance area with vibro compaction at ECRF gap-2 to make the soil firm.
Meanwhile, the authorities have completed the dewatering works in the upcoming ECRF dam area and turned it dry to take up the work. The dewatering works will be continued as and when the water enters the designated work area for reasons such as seepage from the upper cofferdam.
As the Centre released Rs 2,348 crore out of Rs 12,157 crore to be given to the project, the authorities have started clearing the pending bills. As the CM announced in the recently concluded assembly session that his government wants to hold a series of discussions on various components of the project with stakeholders such as the Central Water Commission (CWC), Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and international experts with an aim to complete the project by December 2027.
