AP: CMRF gives new lease of life to boy with rare cancer
Vijayawada: Doctors at the Manipal Hospital give a new lease of life to a four-year-old boy suffering from rare liver cancer called Inoperable Bi-lobar Hepatoblastoma, with financial support provided through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Manipal Foundation.
The boy had been admitted to Manipal Hospital in July 2024 with intermittent abdominal pain. A thorough evaluation revealed a low-grade metabolically active lesion in the right lobe of his liver. Further histopathological examination confirmed the presence of hepatoblastoma, a rare form of liver cancer in children. Due to the critical nature of his condition, doctors ruled that a living donor liver transplant is essential.
The complex surgery had been performed on August 1 by Prof. Dr. Tom Cherian and his team. Doctors discharged the boy on August 9 in stable condition.
