Labour Addas Across AP Soon, Says CM On May Day
Labour addas are being built for the workers. These places should transform into skill development centres. If there is any task, workers would attend the work. Else, they can upgrade their skills at the labour adda. If the concept proves to be successful in the first phase, more labour addas would be built in other places in the state, he said

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced that the state government would establish Labour Addas across Andhra Pradesh to support daily wage workers.
“We would transform them into skill development centres for upgrading workers’ employability and income opportunities,” he said while participating in the May Day celebrations at Pamidimukkala village in Krishna district.
The Chief Minister distributed the Srama Sakthi awards to outstanding performers and employers and said that 15 Labour Addas would be set up in major cities and towns in the first phase.
Naidu praised Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan for reforms in Panchayati Raj and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh for educational reforms that, he said, led to improved Class 10 examination results.
The Chief Minister said the government was committed to improving the welfare and living standards of workers and their families. New ESI hospitals would be established at Achyutapuram, Guntur, Kurnool, Sri City and Amaravati to strengthen healthcare facilities for labourers.
Stating that workers and farmers symbolised the spirit of the Telugu Desam, he said the government was focused on uplifting the poor families and creating opportunities for their children to set up their own enterprises.
Highlighting the state’s welfare measures for workers, the CM said the government was providing `25,000 as marriage assistance for construction workers and their daughters, `20,000 as maternity assistance, a `60,000 aid in case of natural death and `20,000 towards funeral expenses.
Four labour courts were functioning for the speedy resolution of disputes, he added.
The Chief Minister said welfare expenditure was the government’s responsibility and not a burden.
Referring to irrigation projects, he said the damaged diaphragm wall of the Polavaram project had been restored at a cost of `1,000 crore and that the project would be completed by the next year. Steps, he said, are being taken to ensure there is no water shortage in the Krishna delta.
Naidu noted that the Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme was supporting agriculture in the region.
On the Machilipatnam port project, the CM said land acquisition had been completed in 2014 but the previous government cancelled tenders in 2019, resulting in delays. Breakwater, dredging and offshore works were now progressing rapidly and the port was targeted for completion by December this year.
He said Andhra Pradesh was attracting major investments, including a large data centre project by Reliance Industries, following interest shown by global firms such as Google.
Naidu reiterated that electricity tariffs would not be increased.
Ministers Kollu Ravindra, Vasamsetti Subhash, MP Balashowry Vallabhaneni and others were present.
