AP Draws Summer Power Plan For 24x7 Supply
Special Chief Secretary Vijayanand directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to meet the anticipated surge in demand

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has drawn up an extensive contingency plan to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the peak summer months as electricity demand rises sharply amid soaring temperatures, said Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and Energy Department, Special Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, during a review meeting on Wednesday.
Reviewing the power supply scenario for the next three months, Vijayanand directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to meet the anticipated surge in demand.
Chairing a high-level meeting at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada with officials of APtancso and Doscoms, he said daily power demand in the state had touched nearly 275 million units (MU). He stressed the need for advance preparedness to manage load conditions during May, June and July until the onset of the monsoon.
He said the coming months could pose major challenges due to intense heat conditions and the possible impact of El Niño. He instructed power utilities to strengthen coordination mechanisms and remain ready to tackle any disruption during the peak demand season.
Vijayanand also asked APtranco, APgenco and Discom officials to work in close coordination to maintain uninterrupted supply, particularly during periods of maximum load.
Earlier in the day, he chaired the fifth board meeting of the APgenco-NHPC joint venture company ANGEL, where progress of ongoing energy projects was reviewed. He directed officials to expedite execution by securing pending clearances and completing tender processes without delay.
The meeting also decided to develop solar power plants in parks being established by NREDCAP to meet the input power requirements of proposed Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs).
Vijayanand stressed the need for regular coordination meetings between NHPC and APgenco to resolve implementation issues at both the state and Central levels. He further directed officials to coordinate with the Forest Department to clear pending issues relating to the Gadikota and Rajupalem Pumped Storage Projects.
