AP: Failure to Get Land Passbook Forces Farmer to Die by Suicide
Anantapur: The death of a farmer of Garladinne mandal by suicide due to negligence by the revenue staff to issue him a patta for 1.54 acre triggered protests by various sections of people and organisations on Wednesday.
Suryanarayana made a suicide bid in the collectorate premises itself on Monday when he came to represent his case in the grievance cell. The farmer was shifted to Anantapur general hospital where he died on Tuesday.
Failure and negligence by the revenue department of Garladinne mandal who did not issue him a patta in Budedu area led to a blame game in the revenue department.
The farmer’s family had inam lands of forefathers and after sharing, he got 1 acre while he was enjoying another 54 cents closer to the land. Suryanarayana sought a pass book for 1.54 acres while the revenue people received objection from his relatives as 54 cents of land was to be shared with others.
As the issue was prolonged for many days, the farmer didn’t get a solution and continuously pleaded with revenue officials seeking a pass book. The farmer had every right of one acre which would have been issued in the pass book but it was not done by the revenue staff, sources said.
Collector Dr Vinod Kumar directed joint collector Shivakumar Sharma to conduct a probe into the incident and submit a detailed report at the earliest.
