AP Fibernet in financial crisis, reveals APSFL chief
Vijayawada: The AP Fibernet is in the red and on the brink of collapse, revealed APSFL chairman GV Reddy. During the YSRC rule, the authorities illegally paid Rs 2.10 crore to ace director Ram Gopal Varma for 'Vyooham' movie.
Addressing mediapersons in Amaravati on Thursday, Reddy reminded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launched APSFL in 2016 with the sole aim to provide internet facility to the poor and middle-class people.
By 2019, cables were laid to an extent of 24,000 km and over 10 lakh connections were given to the people. Now, the number has dwindled to 5 lakh, he said.
He said that officials were investigating into the corruption in AP Fibernet Limited.
"The YSRC government harassed the cable operators. Action will be taken against the then MD Madhusudan after a thorough inquiry. The YSRC leaders have tampered key files and registers to keep the graft concealed. Some crucial documents have been shifted to YSRC MP Vijayasai Reddy's house by a woman employee," he alleged.
The specific woman employee has been removed from service.
GV Reddy said that they were chalking out a plan to reduce the expenditure and mop up the funds.
While Rs 2 lakh was to be paid to 'Vyooham' director for 18 lakh views, the officials paid Rs 2.10 crore, he added.
