AP Forms Special Teams for Rescue, Relief in Flood-Affected Areas

VIJAYAWADA: AP home minister Vangalapudi Anita on Saturday alerted all district collectors to take care of the situation in the state in the aftermath of heavy rains across Andhra Pradesh.

She directed officials of the departments concerned, particularly those of home and disaster management, to take precautionary measures and prevent loss of life and property.

The minister asked officials to form special teams to carry out rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas. She said, “People should be serious about messages sent by the disaster management department to their mobile phones and take appropriate protective measures.”

In particular, Anita wanted people to be careful in case they find power lines on the ground after they snap due to strong winds. They must not touch these lines as well as electrical poles while walking on the streets.

The minister expressed grief over the death of four people in a landslide at Mogalrajapuram in Vijayawada. She directed officials to rescue those trapped in the debris and take up immediate relief measures.

With regard to waterlogging and traffic disruption near Vijayawada bus station and Kaza toll gate on the highway in Guntur district, Anita instructed police to take all required measures to ensure that traffic does not get stuck anywhere on the crucial road.

She appreciated sub-inspector Venkat for undertaking relief measures even in heavy rain, so that people do not face any problem.

The minister inquired about the wall collapse at Janata Colony in Visakhapatnam district and landslide near a residence in Tadepalli of Guntur district.

Anita advised people to avoid going out unless it is an emergency in view of Indian Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rains in the next 24 hours.
