AP Genco to rise power generation to 2 MU/day at Sagar Power House
Vijayawada: AP Genco would enhance hydroelectric power generation upto two million units per day from Nagarjuna Sagar Right Power House. At present, it generates 1.2 MU/day with a discharge of over 8,000 cusecs of water into the Right Canal from the dam.
The quantum of inflow into the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam on Krishna river from Srisailam Dam started following heavy rainfall in the river catchment areas. AP Genco started power generation at the rate of 0.5 MU/day from August 1. Subsequently, with good inflows into the Nagarjuna Sagar dam and release of water into the right canal, Genco enhanced power supply gradually. It expects to reach a target of two MU/day in the next few days.
The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam’s water level reached 587.50ft against the 590ft FRL. Nearly 305.80tmc-ft of water was stored against the FRL of 312tmc-ft at 5pm on Friday. The dam was getting an inflow of 3.11 lakh cusecs whie the outflow was 2.78 lakh cusecs.
The right canal is getting nearly 8,680 cusecs of water so that power will be generated before releasing that water downstream to meet the drinking water and irrigation requirements of the people and farmers in four districts -- Palnadu, Guntur, Prakasam and Bapatla.
Nagarjuna Sagar right power house executive engineer YSRK Prasad said, “We are increasing the power generation gradually and may reach two million units/per day. We are getting a release of over 8,000 cusecs to the right canal for power generation.”
AP Genco says the power thus generated from Nagarjuna Sagar right power house will go to the state power grid and power generation would continue as long as the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam receives good inflow from upstream projects.
