AP Government Forms Cabinet Sub-Committee for New Excise Policy

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has established a cabinet sub-committee comprising five ministers to develop a draft for a new comprehensive excise policy. The policy will address retail trade, pricing of liquor, and taxation.

Excise principal secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena issued a Government Order on Thursday appointing the sub-committee. The members include excise minister Kollu Ravindra, civil supplies minister Nadendla Manohar, MSME minister Kondapalli Srinivas, health minister Satya Kumar Yadav, and energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar.

The sub-committee is tasked with reviewing departmental proposals, examining best practices in retail, pricing, and taxation related to the excise department, and recommending a draft policy. Their terms of reference include evaluating the current excise policy, assessing its objectives, implementation, and impact on stakeholders, identifying issues and gaps, and examining best practices from other states. The committee will also seek stakeholder opinions and present the draft excise policy to the council of ministers for consideration.
