Vijayawada: Government doctors working in primary health centers (PHCs) have expressed confidence that the state government would respond to their demand to revoke GO 85, which reduces the in-service quota to pursue postgraduate programmes from 30 to 15 per cent and solve the issue amicably.
The doctors reminded their services during the Covid-19 period to help the state government handle the situation effectively and reduce the number of casualties. They appealed to the government to withdraw the GO as it hinders their opportunities to pursue PG programmes at a time when the demand is growing for specialised courses.
Andhra Pradesh PHC Doctors’ Association president Dr T. Rajesh said, “We appeal to the state government to resolve the issue amicably. If the GO 85 is implemented, the PHC doctors who have been serving the government will be deprived of their opportunity to improve their expertise and serve the government in a better fashion.”
The PHC doctors have been agitating since September 10 in various forms and intend to intensify their agitation even by stopping emergency services from September 14. They plan to take up the ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ march on September 15 to the office of the director of health and sit on indefinite fast from September 16 if the state government fails to invite them for talks and to resolve the issue.
