AP govt. to enhance CCTV surveillance across state
Vijayawada: Infrastructure and investment secretary S. Suresh Kumar underlined that Andhra Pradesh government is enhancing its CCTV surveillance state wide, with focus on public safety, traffic management and maintenance of law and order.
At a review meeting with officials of various departments concerned, he disclosed that artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions are being incorporated to monitor helmet-less riding, seatbelt violations, mobile phone usage while driving, and use of non-standard number plates.
Suresh Kumar reviewed the status of the 14,770 cameras installed across the state for CCTV surveillance. He wanted these cameras to be utilised efficiently, citing their capabilities to detect red light violations, monitor no-parking zones, identify wrong-way driving, manage crowds and detect intrusion.
He said, “In last one year, over 58 lakh violations have been detected using CCTV surveillance. But less than 10 per cent of them led to successful challans, resulting in collection of about ₹7.5 crore penalty. It must be ensured that all violations are converted into e-challans.” he underlined.
The infrastructure secretary said integration with AI will take the state’s surveillance capabilities to the next level, leading to a proactive approach towards law enforcement and public safety. He wanted surveillance data integrated seamlessly with the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS).
Suresh Kumar invited suggestions from district collectors and SPs to optimise the RTGS usage across various domains.
Emphasising on the importance of efficient surveillance, he said the department will soon develop a comprehensive action plan based on the feedback received. “By integrating advanced technologies and expanding the scope of CCTV use, we aim to build a safer, smarter and more secure state for our citizens,” he added.
