Andhra Pradesh to introduce foreign language training in nursing colleges to enhance global job prospects for students

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government plans to train nursing students from 13 government colleges in several foreign languages to improve their job potential abroad.
Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav held detailed discussions with senior officials from the health ministry recently and sought detailed proposals from them. He directed the director of medical education to examine the duration of teaching foreign languages required to the nursing students to acquire proficiency acceptable to the host countries, award of foreign language certificate, availability of teachers in several foreign languages and whether the training in foreign languages to be taken up as part of the curriculum or outside of it and other details.
The health ministry is contemplating to introduce several foreign language courses for nursing students in association with the AP Skill Development Corporation to improve their proficiency in some foreign languages and also to train them to improve their communication skills to help them get employment opportunities in the foreign countries.
Accordingly, when the directorate of medical education sought the views of the nursing students with regard to their language preferences to acquire proficiency, they preferred languages like German, Japanese, French and English.
AP has over 500 nursing colleges and schools producing more than 30,000 trained nurses every year.
