AP launches Skills Census for IT sector

VISHAKHAPATNAM: The state Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) launched the Skills Census at a conference attended by around 50 officials from major IT businesses here on Tuesday.

Managing director and CEO of APSSDC, Ganesh Kumar, emphasized the importance of targeted workforce training programmes to improve their skills. The present initiative would facilitate a better alignment between the skills possessed by job seekers and demands of the industry, he said.

The conference provided an opportunity for industry representatives to discuss their views and ideas about the skills census. Senior APSSDC officials, district skill development officers and executives from key IT corporations including WNS and Patra were present.
The skills census aimed at examining the existing skill levels in the IT sector and identifying the specific skill sets needed by such companies. This is part of a larger goal set by chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to create a database that would influence future training and development programmes.

The government intends to have another set of meetings with IT sector firms for successful execution of the skills census and to collect actionable data for future skill development initiatives.
