AP Lokayukta selection committee to have four members: Lokesh

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council passed the Andhra Pradesh Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which reduces the size of the committee for selecting members to the Lokayukta from five to four, omitting the position of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP). The bill was introduced by the Minister for Human Resource Development, N. Lokesh, on behalf of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Lokesh explained that although the committee traditionally consisted of five members—comprising the Chief Minister, the Speaker of the Assembly, the Chairman of the Council, the Home Minister or any other Cabinet Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition—the absence of an LoP prompted the amendment. Despite this change, PDF members requested that an Opposition representative be included in the selection committee to ensure broader participation in the process.
