AP may not face cyclone Remal impact: IMD

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh might not face any impact of the cyclone Remal as it is likely to move away from the State towards West Bengal.

However, there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall at some places in Coastal Andhra due to the impact of cyclone either on Friday or Saturday. Light to moderate rain might occur in Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, East and West Godavari districts.

In the tropical weather outlook report related to Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said the low pressure area over west central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved northeast wards during past 12 hours, and concentrated into a depression and lay centered at over central Bay of Bengal on Friday near latitude 15.0 on and longitude 88.4 0E, about 800 km south southwest of Khepupara (41984, bangladesh) and 810 km south of canning (42812, West bengal).

According to IMD, it is very likely to continue to move northeastwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over east central Bay of Bengal by May 25. Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by 6 pm on May 25 continuing to move nearly northward. It is very likely to cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around 6 pm on May 26 as a severe cyclonic storm.

Rough to very rough sea condition is likely to take place over central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal on Friday and it would become high over central Bay of Bengal on May 25 and 26 and high to very high over north Bay of Bengal by May 27.

Rough sea conditions are likely to take place along and off Bangladesh, West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coasts from May 25 midnight and high to very high along and off Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts from May 26 midnight onwards till May 27.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into Bengal and Andaman Sea till May 27 and those who are already in sea are advised to return to the coast.
