Vijayawada: Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana has said efforts to clear the stagnant Budameru floodwaters from the affected areas continued with the help of motor pumps on Thursday.
“By tomorrow evening, we will pump out the still stagnant floodwaters, the minister said after a tour of the flood-affected areas.
Narayana was accompanied in his visit by MLAs Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Kolikapudi Srinivas Rao. They toured Payakapuram, UDA Colony, the Journalist Colony, Kandrika and Ambapuram.
He said instructions were given to officials to pump out the remaining floodwaters. An inspection of the Budameru flow path from Payakapuram to Mustabada was also done.
Narayana called for arrangements to quickly remove Budameru stagnant water in vacant spaces between houses.
He said that water had almost receded in all the 32 divisions in Vijayawada and floodwaters were still stagnant in one or two divisions.
“Workers are cutting the roads in flood-hit areas to pump out the stagnant water. By Friday evening, we will have pumped out all the water. Sanitation and cleaning will also be completed in all divisions,” he said and added that normalcy would return to flood-affected areas soon.
