AP plans class teacher visits to homes of students

State inspired by similar programmes in US and Australia

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has conceived a Home Visit Programme for teachers to interact with parents of their students, twice every year.

This is on the lines of similar programmes in the government-run schools in the US and Australia.

School education department principal secretary Praveen Prakash issued GOMS:26, introducing the innovative programme, which will see every class teacher visiting the homes of their students twice -- in June an January.

The programme would be implemented in the state from the start of the 2024-25 academic year.

Praveen Prakash said, “These visits should be one-to-one and scheduled at the convenience of the parents. The purpose of these visits is to prepare a personalized academic progress plan for each student and revise the plan during the second visit.”

This initiative aims to actively involve parents in their children's education, thereby enhancing academic outcomes and fostering a collaborative educational environment.

Praveen Prakash said, “Parents’ involvement in education would significantly enhance academic outcomes. The Parent-Teacher Home Visit Programme in government schools in the US and Australia helped in addressing the learning gaps of the children and increasing the academic performance of the students by 13 per cent and attendance by 24 per cent.”
