AP Ready For Local Body Polls, Govt Tells HC

Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas submitted that the Comprehensive Family Survey had been completed and that the data would be placed before gram sabhas for verification.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government informed the High Court on Thursday that it was prepared to conduct elections to local bodies.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Lisa Gill and Justice R. Raghunandan Rao heard the matter.

Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas submitted that the Comprehensive Family Survey had been completed and that the data would be placed before gram sabhas for verification. He said the exercise would be conducted over two days and objections would be invited until June 24.

He further informed the court that the one-man commission tasked with finalising Backward Classes (BC) reservations would soon submit its report. Based on the commission's recommendations, the government would proceed with conducting local body elections, he said.

After hearing the submissions, the court directed the State government to file its counter-affidavit and posted the matter for further hearing on July 16.
