AP receives 1 Padma Bhushan, 5 Padma awards

Vijayawada: Famous actor and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Indian cinema.
Further, four individuals from AP have received the Padma Sri awards – K.L. Krishna for literature and education, Madugula Nagaphani Sarma for art, Miriyala Appa Rao (posthumous) for art, and Vadiraj Raghawendracharya Panchamukhi for literature and education.
Balakrishna is a veteran in the field of acting with his career last over 50 years. He has so far acted in 109 films and continues to act. He is also involved in charity, particularly running the Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad.
Balakrishna, son of legendary Telugu actor NTR, stepped into electoral politics in 2014. He has become an MLA for the third time from the Hindupur constituency.

K.L. Krishna, formerly professor and head of the Department of Economics in Delhi School of Economics, ranks amongst the most distinguished economists in India. He is presently chairman of the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad.
Miriyala Appa Rao was a Burrakatha artist from Tadepalligudem, who passed away 11 days ago. He has been recognised for his five decades of hard work in the field. He has also won international awards.
