AP takes up verification of social security pensioners

Aim is to ascertain the eligibility of those receiving such pensions across the state

Vijayawada:Based on a direction from Chief Minister Chandababu Naidu, a verification of the social security pensions has been done as a pilot project to ascertain eligibility of the existing beneficiaries in the state.

The chief executive officer of the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty, G Veerapandian, issued a circular recently on the modalities for the verification of the NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme. The drive is held for two days – Monday and Tuesday.

Teams of officials have visited select village/ward secretariats, one in each district, through all the 26 districts on Monday. They got an allocation of 40 pensioners per team.

The teams visited the pensioners’ houses and verified the details as per the questionnaire and uploaded the details in the specified mobile app. The officials took the pensioners’ photos and their Aadhaar authentication as also their remarks, to be uploaded on the mobile app.

Project directors of the District Rural Development Authority have been instructed to attend the physical and field verification drive and to coordinate with the verification process.

Later, divisional development officers of the Panchayat Raj department did supervision of the verification process to ensure that the actual status of the pensioners was noted and recorded.

The TD-led state government had enhanced the social security pension amount since July from `4,000 to old age persons, widows and others. It is providing `6,000 per month to disabled persons and `10,000 to fully disabled persons per month and for those suffering with chronic diseases etc.
