AP to Screen 28 Lakh Children for Health Problems

Vijayawada: Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav launched Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram to screen 28 lakh children, includiung newborns to the one of 18 years of age for defects, disabilities and other health conditions, at the Zilla Parishad High School in Patamata, Vijayawada, on Friday.

The programme aims to decrease child morbidity and improve quality of life. Over 28 lakh children are enroled in Anganwadi centres (AWCs) and 42 lakh children enroled in schools, they will be screened. The health personnel will conduct head to toe screening at all Anganwadi centres and government/aided schools.

Children identified with certain defects will be referred to the district intervention centres and other government health centres.

As per schedule, the preliminary screening will be taken up on Saturday at AWCs and on Thursday and Saturday (2.00 pm to 4.00 pm) at schools both in urban and rural areas. Based on preliminary screening, the concerned medical officer will examine the children with abnormalities and will provide treatment at the village clinic.
