AP to strive for power cut-free state, says Minister Gottipati

Kurnool: Power Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has hinted at plans to increase generation for AP through the Srisailam Hydel Power Project in view of the rising demand.

He said on Thursday that the Srisailam project has the capacity to boost power generation due to high flow of floodwater into the reservoir.

The minister, along with chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, participated in the Jala Harati programme at Srisailam on Thursday. Later, he visited the right bank hydel power project and held a review meeting with GENCO officials.

During the meeting, officials said 100 million units of electricity was produced in July alone. All units were currently generating 15 to 16 million units of electricity a day. “The target for August is 250 million units, with a potential to raise it to 300 million units if the current flood water flow continues,” they said.

The minister advised officials to focus on increasing power generation and cited the government's commitment to achieve the goal of freeing AP from power cuts. AP would strive to get back to its ‘power surplus’ status, as in the 2014-2019 TD term, he said.

APGENCO managing director Chakradhar Babu, director Sujay Kumar and other officials were present.
