AP’s temperature to be above normal this summer

Andhra Pradesh will experience above normal maximum temperatures and heat waves during the summer from March to May, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast on Friday.


Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh will experience above normal maximum temperatures and heat waves during the summer from March to May, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast on Friday.

As per the outlook released by the IMD, most parts of Andhra Pradesh, including the coastal as well as Rayalaseema regions, will experience above normal maximum temperatures.

IMD-Amaravati scientist S. Karuna Sagar said above normal heat wave days are expected over most parts of the country, including Andhra Pradesh. The minimum temperatures too are most likely to be above normal in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions.

Coastal areas in the state are also likely to experience heat waves in March.
Andhra Pradesh recorded 27 heat wave days in 2024 and 21 heatwave days in 2023.

As per the IMD, AP experienced the highest number of heatwave days in south India in 2023.

Extreme weather events claimed around 50 lives in Andhra Pradesh in 2024 – the warmest year on record in India. Floods and heavy rains took the maximum number of lives in AP, followed by lightning and thunderstorms.

The weather agency predicted that March 2025 will witness above normal rainfall over parts of Andhra Pradesh.
