AP: Water Crisis Forces Tribal Women to Walk Kms for Water
The Jal Jeevan Mission could offer a lifeline by installing a storage tank, transformer, and Jaljeevan machine to make the system operational

Visakhapatnam: In the remote hilltop tribal village of Jajula Banda in ASR district, women from the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) Kondu community are forced to walk nearly two kilometres every day to fetch clean water, exposing a severe and ongoing water crisis. Despite the installation of taps in individual households years ago under a government initiative, the project remains non-functional due to lack of supporting infrastructure.
Located in Koyyuru mandal under Moolapet panchayat, the village of 180 residents was never provided with a storage tank or an electricity connection for the water motor. The absence of a transformer has rendered the entire system useless, pushing tribal women to bear the burden of securing water for their families.
Leading the appeal are local women Marri Radhamma, Pangi Seetha, and Vijaya, who have urged the district collector to take immediate action. Their demand is simple: a functional water tap in every home with a reliable supply.
The Jal Jeevan Mission could offer a lifeline by installing a storage tank, transformer, and Jaljeevan machine to make the system operational. However, despite repeated requests, no official steps have been taken, leaving the community in distress.
