Bad Weather and Navy Ops Disrupt Flight Services in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: Bad weather and Indian Navy operations caused major disruptions at Visakhapatnam Airport on Wednesday. Airport officials reported that three flights were delayed, while three others had to be diverted to different locations.
Airport director S. Raja Reddy reported that the delayed flights included the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad flight (6E307), which was delayed by 1 hour and 10 minutes; the Bangalore-Visakhapatnam-Bangalore flight (6E218), which was delayed by 1 hour; and the Chennai-Visakhapatnam-Chennai flight (6E845), which experienced a 45-minute delay.
The Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam flight was diverted to Vijayawada due to unfavourable weather conditions, specifically cloud patches in the approach area. The Delhi-Visakhapatnam flight was redirected to Shamshabad Airport in Hyderabad for the same reason. Furthermore, the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam flight was diverted to Hyderabad due to low visibility at Visakhapatnam Airport.
Raja Reddy stated that, apart from weather-related issues, the delays were exacerbated by construction activities conducted by the Indian Navy at both ends of the runway. This situation has led to the unavailability of the Instrument Landing System, further complicating flight operations.
Passengers have been advised to stay updated on flight schedules and plan accordingly to minimise disruptions. Raja Reddy said, “We are working to address the issues and ensure smoother operations moving forward.”
