Bharath seeks permanent solution to Kurnool's drinking water woes

KURNOOL: Industries Minister T.G. Bharath on Saturday directed the municipal officials to devise plans for a permanent solution to the drinking water problem faced by the residents of Kurnool city. The Minister conducted a review meeting with the civic body officials at the new municipal council hall on Saturday. He said many colonies in Kurnool city would be inundated during floods in Handri river and instructed the officials to start removing silt from the canals.

He sought details from the officials on sanitation, infrastructure development, and greenery in Kurnool. The minister suggested that there should be no haste in removing of encroachments as it would lead to displacement of people. He told the officials to take proper measures before removing of encroachments. He told them to make alternative arrangements for the small-time traders and poor before removing encroachments. He also instructed the officials to supply clean drinking water to the residents following the complaints of discolored water being supplied from municipal taps in Kurnool. The Minister said that he had received several complaints from the people during his campaign for the recent elections and told the people to submit their problems in the form of complaints to the municipal commissioner and made several suggestions for resolving them. He said that his aim was to make Kurnool a smart city by ensuring safe drinking water supply to people on time every day. Further, interacting with the media he said that in the next five years, Andhra Pradesh would be industrialised on the lines of Gujarat state. Along with industrial development, the Orvakal Industrial Zone would also be developed. Efforts would be made to re-implement the MoUs signed in the past with regard to the industrial sector. He promised to set up a single window clearance in 21 days and said appropriate steps would be taken to bring industries and to provide employment to the youth.
