BJP will not amend Constitution, says Purandeswari

Kakinada: BJP AP unit president and Rajamahendravaram Lok Sabha member D. Purandeswari, stated that the BJP has no plans to amend the Constitution or target religious institutions, countering opposition allegations. Speaking as the chief guest at a BJP membership drive in Rajamahendravaram on Monday, Purandeswari emphasised that the BJP is dedicated to safeguarding national interests and citizens' rights. She criticised opposition parties within the I.N.D.I.A bloc for making accusations against the BJP and the NDA government.

Purandeswari highlighted that leaders of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, particularly Congress, National Conference, and PDP from Jammu and Kashmir, have proposed a joint manifesto advocating for the restoration of Article 370, which she claims aims to further divide the country. She accused the opposition of orchestrating a damaging campaign against the BJP, which she believes contributed to the NDA alliance's loss of seats. Despite this, she asserted that the people recognised the BJP's commitment to operating within constitutional boundaries.

Reflecting on the BJP's growth, Purandeswari noted that the party began with just 2 Lok Sabha seats in 1980 and has since expanded to win 240 seats and form the government. She compared this to the Chinese Communist Party, which started with a large membership base but was outpaced by the BJP's membership numbers—11 crores in 2014 and 18 crores currently. She reminded that according to the constitution, membership drives should occur every three years.

Former state BJP president Somu Veerraju, Anaparthi MLA Nallamilli Ramakrishna Reddy and others were present.
