BSNL to Start 5G Services in Krishna District by Next Sankranti
Vijayawada: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will roll out complete 4G services in the erstwhile Krishna district by October this year, said the company's principal general manager L. Sreenu, adding that 5G services would be ready by Sankranti next year.
Sreenu said, “To provide 4G services to BSNL network users, we are installing more than 422 towers in (erstwhile) Krishna district, of which the installation of 88 towers has already been completed. Testing is currently being conducted and will be completed in the coming days.”
Speaking to reporters at the BSNL Bhavan in Vijayawada, he mentioned that BSNL telecom network users should upgrade their existing 2G/3G SIM cards to 4G SIMs to experience uninterrupted 4G services. He instructed network users to type "SIM" and send a message to 54040 to find out their SIM card type.
He said BSNL has witnessed a sudden surge in new connections, with many users from private networks shifting following the recent uneven hike in mobile tariff plans.
“A whopping 22,000 new users from other networks joined BSNL through mobile number portability, taking the number of BSNL network users from 4.76 lakh to around the 5 lakh mark in (erstwhile) Krishna district,” he added.
Sreenu further said BSNL is testing a new project named ‘Saravatra Wi-Fi,’ in which registered users will be able to access internet services beyond their homes.
