Call to Expedite Work on VSP-Chennai Industrial Corridor

Vijayawada:The state government has asked officials to expedite works on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor, expansion of roads and creation of infrastructure like land, electricity, roads and water facilities for industries.

The call was made at the 5th steering committee meeting of the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor Development Project held under the chairmanship of chief secretary Neerabh Prasad in the secretariat on Thursday. Officials of the Industries, APIIC, APRDC, APTransco etc took part.

The chief secretary said various industries and companies are being set up in the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor. “This corridor needs land, better roads, electricity, water etc. Officials should take steps to establish large-scale industries by providing infrastructure in time,” he said.

Monthly and daily progress reports of physical and financial goals must be prepared. These would be submitted to the Asian Development Bank for sanction of funds in time, he said.

The chief secretary reviewed the progress of the corridor work done so far and the funds granted to APIIC, APRDC, AP Transco and GVMC as the state's share over and above the ADB funds.

The Chennai Industrial Corridor is very important, the CS said, and asked officials to carry out all the related works with a sense of urgency.

Industries and commerce secretary N Yuvraj gave a powerpoint presentation and said, “There are 11 industrial corridors in the country and three of them are connected with Andhra Pradesh -- namely the Visakhapatnam-Chennai, the Chennai-Bangalore and the Bangalore-Hyderabad industrial corridors.”

Industries commissioner Sridhar, officials of the state road development corporation, AP Transco, finance, industries and other departments participated in this meeting.
