Candidate contests MLC elections in village name

His campaign style is different. He appeals to voters to vote for any candidate including him, but not to the candidate of the ruling alliance or PDF.
Kakinada: Indian elections throw up strange things. One such unusual thing was witnessed in MLC elections for graduates constituency in Godavari districts.
One of the candidates is contesting elections, not in his own name, but in the name of his village. Gadde Veera Venkata Satyanarayana (Sathibabu) fights elections under the name of his village ''Rajapudi’, in Jaggampeta constituency of Kakinada district.
Over last few years, he has been making statements on social media in the name of ''Rajakeeya Parishodhana Kendram (political research centre) when he questioned every political party including the Chief Ministers on various issues.
His campaign style is different. He appeals to voters to vote for any candidate including him, but not to the candidate of the ruling alliance or PDF. He said he wants to bring in a change in politics and show to people what real development is all about.
He told Deccan Chronicle that there is a provision in Election Commission rules candidates can contest elections even by using their nick names or village names. He said when he filed his papers in the name of his village Rajapudi, the election officer and Eluru district collector K. Vetri Selvi expressed doubts. After verifying his affidavits and other documents, she accepted his nomination in the name of his village.
He said he is a strong contender and gets good response from graduate voters and private and government employees. However, he observed that the next three days are crucial for him to garner support of voters. He said he has a clear vision to develop the constituency and the state and he can question the government in the council on public issues.
He said when he had contested for Assembly elections in his own name, nobody recognised him, but now, all have recognised him as he has used his village name.

This time around, the MLC elections have 35 candidates contesting the polls. P. Rajasekhar contests from the ruling alliance while D. V. Raghavulu is from PDF (UTF) and former MP G. V. Harsha Kumar's son G. V. Sundar is also in the race.
