Central varsity observes ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’
Anantapur:The Central University of AP observed ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ (Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas) on August 14. This day, instituted by the Prime Minister in 2021, serves as a poignant reminder of the profound human cost of the partition of India in 1947.
Vice chancellor Prof. S.A. Kori, Dr Pankaj Kumar, faculty of Political Science, highlighted that the partition stands as one of the most tragic chapters in our history, marking not just the division of land but the rupture of countless lives, families, and communities. A cataclysm displaced millions, triggering one of the largest migrations in human memory. Families left behind their ancestral homes; their lives were uprooted in the wake of political upheaval and communal violence.
He concluded by reaffirming our commitment to tolerance, harmony, and coexistence and pledging to learn from history’s mistakes and build a future where such tragedies never repeat themselves.
As part of Remembrance Day, a play performed by the National School of Drama on the theme “Partition: A Tragedy” was screened in the CUAP auditorium, which moved the faculty and students emotionally.
The CUAP community honoured the memory of those who suffered and perished during partition by pledging to create a society where empathy triumphs over division, where understanding bridges differences, and where the lessons of the past guide us towards a brighter tomorrow. The programme was attended by the dean, Prof. C. Sheela Reddy, faculty members, students, and other staff.
