Chakra Theertha Mukkoti at Tirumala on December 12
Tirupati: Tirumala, the spiritual hub of devotees, will celebrate one of its most significant festivals – Chakra Theertha Mukkoti – on December 12, coinciding with the auspicious Tamil Karthika Masam, aligning with Suddha Dwadasi, a spiritually potent day as per the lunar calendar.
Chakra Theertham is nestled amidst the lush green woods of Seshachala mountain ranges, a few miles to the south of the renowned Lord Venkateswara Temple. At the heart of Chakra Theertham lies a unique sanctum on the rocky hill, featuring an engraved image of Sri Sudarshana Chakrattalwar, apart from shrines of Sri Narasimha Swamy and Anjaneya Swamy.
On the day of Chakra Theertha Mukkoti, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will organise special rituals, including Pujas and Abhishekam, to honor Sri Sudarshana Chakrattalwar and other deities at this sacred site.
According to the ancient lore, a sage meditated at this location for 12 years, seeking divine grace. During this period, he was attacked by a demon. The sage’s prayers were answered by none other than Lord Vishnu, who sent His mighty Chakrayudham (Sudarshana Chakra) to vanquish the demon. Following the victory, Lord Vishnu left His powerful weapon at this site to protect the righteous devotees forever. This divine act is said to have blessed the place with immense spiritual power.
Varaha Puranam, one of the ancient Hindu texts, extols Chakra Theertham as one of the seven most prominent Muktiprada Theerthams (sacred water bodies that bestow salvation).
Pilgrims believe that a dip in these holy waters purifies the soul and leads to liberation.
