Chali festival concludes with enthralling Egyptian, Sufi dances

Egyptian folk, Sufi, Manipuri and Sugali dances of Banjaras enthralled the packed audience on the concluding day of the Chali festival, which began on January 31 at the Araku Valley.

Adivasis from the northeast, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Rajasthan also put up their performances during the three-day festival. Tribal groups from ASR district performed the famous Dhimsa dance.

Hot air balloon rides, paragliding and other adventure sports attracted a large number of people from different places.
A team from Madhya Pradesh organised a trek from Sunkarametta Coffee Plantation area to the Araku Valley on Sunday morning. ASR district collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar and Visakhapatnam district judge Alapati Giridhar were among the senior officials present.
The trekkers carried placards to free the valley of plastic and other pollutants.
Dinesh Kumar said the response to the three-day festival had been overwhelming. He said tourists from outside the state visited popular sites at Lambasingi, Vanjangi, Kothapalli waterfall, tribal museum and tasted the world famous Araku coffee
Another official pointed out that the climate remained pleasant, with the minimum temperatures hovering between 10–14 degrees Celsius. However, thick fog slowed the movement of vehicles on the ghat road.
