Chandrababu returns to Assembly as CM after 2.5 years

Vijayawada: Some two-and-a-half years after staging a walkout from the state Assembly over alleged insults to his family members, Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday returned to the Assembly as Chief Minister for a fresh term.

On the first day of the first session of the Assembly, Naidu arrived at the House after touching the ground in reverence at the entrance. He was greeted by thunderous applause from the Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and BJP MLAs.

Telugu Desam MLAs welcomed Naidu by holding placards of ‘Nijam Gelichindi, Prajaswamyam Nilichindi' slogans.

On Friday, Naidu entered the Assembly through the Exit, through which he walked out of the Assembly in a huff when he was humiliated there on November 19, 2021.

Some YSRC MLAs had abused Naidu and his wife and indulged in “character assassination” in the Assembly in the presence of then chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. This led to his boycott of all the sessions thereafter.

After his Telugu Desam winning 135 seats in the Assembly elections this time, Naidu walked into the House, his mind filled with a sense of accomplishment. His measured entry via the Exit door was a surprise to the MLAs, though.

Notably, the TD had 23 MLAs when it was in the Opposition, of which four MLAs had eventually quit and joined the YSRC.

After facing insults from the YSRC legislators, Naidu as the Leader of Opposition then, described the Assembly as ‘Kourava Sabha’ and pledged to re-enter it only when it became a ‘Gourava Sabha’. Later, during a press meet, Naidu wept inconsolably.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naoidu's wife Bhuvaneswari stated in a post on X (Twitter) on Friday that truth has won, and democracy stood its ground. She saluted the people for giving TD a fresh opportunity. A video was attached to the post, stating that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu came to the Gourava Sabha (Assembly) today.

It included the visuals of Chandrababu Nidu taking the oath on Friday and of his vow in the Assembly two and a half years ago.
