Chandrababu to take oath as AP CM on June 12 in Amaravati

VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu would take the oath as Chief Minister on June 12 in Amaravati, his designated state capital.

The TD alliance won the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections with a landslide majority on Tuesday. The oath-taking ceremony will be held on the banks of River Krishna at Rayapudi in Amaravati.

After the Parliament polls gave a reduced seat-strength to the NDA at the Centre, Narendra Modi would take oath as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term in New Delhi on June 9. Naidu and other top leaders will attend the event.

The earlier plan for AP was to conduct Chandrababu’s oath-taking ceremony in an auspicious Muhurut on June 9. The Delhi plans prompted Naidu to change the date of the oath-taking in AP.

Amaravati holds special significance to Chandrababu Naidu. While as CM for the first term in new AP since 2014, he had often boasted that he wanted to turn his baby, Amaravati shaped laboriously from clay and sweat, into a futuristic world capital. However, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who succeeded him as CM in 2019, poured cold water into Naidu’s dreams. He sought to scrap the very idea and instead proposed a ‘three-capitals’ system.

Notably, on October 22, 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Naidu by his side, set the foundation stone for Amaravati.

Naidu reiterated that his new government will continue Amaravati as the state capital and pursue his high dreams in this respect.

As per the now cancelled schedule, the swearing-in ceremony was to take place at 11.53 am on June 9. Now, the TD leadership is having fresh consultations with priests to select auspicious Muhuruts on June 12, in view of the changed schedule.

The materials for the swearing-in ceremony like big scaffoldings, tables, lighting and addressing systems were moved in 12 trucks to Rayapudi in Amaravati region on Wednesday. These vehicles were parked on the Amaravati Seed Access Road and the material would be taken out on Thursday for fresh deployment.

TD sources said many political dignitaries, guests, public representatives, leaders and officials will prominently participate in the swearing-in ceremoney. All their vehicles will also need parking space.

Meanwhile, informed sources said a meeting will be held on June 7 to name Chandrababu Naidu as leader of the TD Legislature Party. TD legislators would hand over a letter to Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, urging him to invite Naidu as their leader to form the new government.

Chandrababu would be taking the oath as chief minister for the fourth time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend Naidu’s oath-taking event along with other top dignitaries.
