Hyderabad: A large quantity of goats and sheep were transported from Hyderabad wholesale meat shops to Andhra Pradesh in lorries to meet the rising demand of customers on account of Kanuma on Wednesday to be celebrated a day after Sankranti on a spectacular note.
The sheep and goats were transported from Chengicherla and Ziaguda wholesale markets in huge quantities to Andhra Pradesh on Sunday to meet the demand. Highest orders were placed from East and West Godavari district where cock and sheep fighting apart from other indoor games were organized to mark the celebrations.
In view of the festival, the prices of chicken and mutton went up ahead of Kanuma on Wednesday in several parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Owing to the shortage of butchers to cut them, several of them from twin cities also went to Andhra Pradesh to meet the requirements. More than three dozen butchers from Hyderabad left to East and West Godavari district to cut sheep and goats before cooking non-vegetarian dishes in typical Andhra style.
