Visakhapatnam: The Port City of Vizag will turn snowy year through with a “Snow Station” starting in this sweltering February at the Akkayapalem Viswanath Sports Club.
The station will use industrial-grade chillers and insulation systems to bring down the temperature within the premises between minus 5–10 degrees Celsius. This will lead to formation of snow, which will be refreshed throughout the day using specialised groomers to ensure optimal conditions.
The “Snow Station” is the brainchild of four women entrepreneurs – V. Divya, K. Sudeesha, K. Vineesha and K. Soujanya. They have brought the equipment and machines from South Korea to bring Kashmir to Visakhapatnam.
Divya said Snow Station is the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. “The main idea behind the set-up is to create a wonderland experience throughout the year. Live snow events will be hosted at the premises, so that individuals and families can experience the snow, whether it is the rainy, winter or summer season,” Divya told this correspondent.
She disclosed that advanced snow-making machines will produce snowflakes similar to those in natural winter conditions.
Snow Station will operate between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. Visitors can enjoy a range of winter activities, including snow wall climbing, snow slides for children and adults, snowball fights and building snowmen. There will be igloos and snow-based sports like baseball and basketball.
Entry will be on tickets. Snow Station will provide all necessary equipment, including gloves, socks, boots and jackets.
