Civic Officials ‘Boycott’ Council Meeting in Guntur
Vijayawada:In an unprecedented move, municipal officials ‘boycotted’ the municipal corporation council meeting in Guntur on Saturday, protesting the high-handed behaviour of Deputy Mayor Vanama Baa Vajrababu. The officials demanded an apology and staged a demonstration.
The council meeting began with Corporator Roshan requesting details on the payment of bills for expenditures incurred on developmental works in the city. He asked for further clarification, to which the officials responded that some works and the payment of bills were policy decisions.
This answer angered deputy mayor Vajrababu, who grabbed the microphone and questioned who had prepared the response. He claimed that the answer given by the officials was humiliating.
Municipal commissioner Puli Srinivasulu intervened to explain the rules and assured that all details would be submitted appropriately. However, Vajrababu insisted that they had the right to question the spending of funds on civic projects.
As tensions escalated, the municipal officials, including the commissioner, left the council hall and staged a protest outside, wearing black badges and demanding an apology from the deputy mayor.
The President of the AP municipal commissioners Association, Ch. Naga Narasimha Rao, along with other office-bearers, condemned the incident and called for Vajrababu’s removal from his elected post. They also demanded protection for municipal commissioners, officials, and staff.
