CM Naidu thanks Centre for release of Polavaram funds

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the Centre would soon release a due of `12,127 crore for the Polavaram project.

“We have the confidence that the state will develop with the Centre's support. The Centre cleared two notes related to the Polavaram project and industries in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday,” Naidu said at a media conference at the Secretariat.

The Polavaram project is scheduled to be completed by March 2027, the Chief Minister said.

Naidu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their decision to release funds for the Polavaram project, the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh.

He said the Centre should release pending funds to the Polavaram project, and recalled that the works were never stopped. “In 2019, soon after the YSRC formed the government in the state, the Polavaram project and the works were crippled in the name of reverse tendering.”

On the completion of the Polavaram project, Naidu said the works should have been completed by 2021. “During the YSRC term, the Centre released `8,000 crore along with a PPP letter, but in vain. The Purushothapatnam and Pattiseema lifts have not been used for five years. This had a huge adverse impact on the release of water for drinking and irrigation purposes.”

He said, “Experts concluded that it is better to construct a new diaphragm wall. We will construct a new diaphragm wall with `992 crore. Our aim is to complete the first phase of the project with a height of 41.15 metres by 2027.”

He said a total of 12 industrial corridors are being constructed in the country, of which three are in AP. “For these, the government would spend ` 28,000 crore. Industrial hubs are coming up in Kopparthi of Kadapa district and Orvakal of Kurnool district. These two hubs will create two lakh jobs.”

He said permissions were also given to Krishnapatnam projects and a pharma cluster would come up at Nakkapalli. All these projects would pave the way for faster industrial development of AP.

On the joining of leaders from other parties to Telugu Desam, Naidu made it clear that even if such leaders resign from their posts, their entry into TD would be on the basis of their image.

He said that in the process of appointing the right leader to the right position, the filling of nominated posts is getting delayed. “We will fill all the posts in 100 days. In another 25 days, there will be good news for everyone.”
