CM Naidu Urges Entire Society to Promote Swatchandhra Mission

They narrated to the CM the construction of individual toilets, public toilets, door-to-door collection, solid-waste segregation, clean village and other matters.

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has called upon the entire society to act as partners in achieving the Swatchandhra goals that his government has set.

The CM said on Friday, “This is not just about setting goals but also implementing plans to achieve the goals. All of you must become active partners in achieving the goals we have set for Swatchandhra.”

Holding a review meeting on an action plan for boosting sanitation and setting high global standards, the chief minister said the government has been organising special Swatchandhra-Swarnandhra programmes on the third Saturday of every month.

"Taking a separate theme for every month, these Swatchandhra-Swarnandhra programmes are being organised to create awareness among the people," Naidu said.

While 'New Year Clean Start' was the theme in January, it is 'Source-Resource' for February, the CM said and made it clear, "Focus should be on how to achieve development by utilising the resources in the state. We must get to our roots and explore our strengths."

Naidu said he’s keen that a goal has to be set for increasing the living standards, encouraging tourism, attracting investments and taking the climate of AP to Net Zero level, besides achieving sustainable development goals.

The CM directed the officials to move towards total cleanliness, prioritise sanitation, public health, and solid waste management; and work towards achieving the targets set by the Centre.

"Everyone should realise that Swatchandhra means clean people with an ethical mindset, neat environment, clean houses, neat colonies and villages. Along with clean residences, open areas, schools, colleges and government offices, the places of worship and space in and around industrial units too should be kept clean," he said.

Naidu said, “To achieve this, every individual, every employee, all organisations and all systems should work in tandem. This should not be viewed as an issue confined only to one particular department or officer.”

“Simply giving slogans that greenery should be maintained will not do. Throwing of waste on roads and the cutting away of trees in public places will no longer be allowed,” Naidu said.

The CM said officers of the Pollution Control Board should focus on such matters.

The officials explained to the CM that the progress of the programmes taken up by the Urban Development Department and the Panchayat Raj wing, as part of Swarnandhra-Swatchandhra, particularly the targets set in 14 indicators.

They narrated to the CM the construction of individual toilets, public toilets, door-to-door collection, solid-waste segregation, clean village and other matters.

The officials announced ranks to districts based on the progress achieved in all the 14 indicators. The NTR district stood on top by earning 129 points out of 200 while Visakhapatnam was second with 127 points and Alluri Seetharamaraju district stood last, earning the 26th place with just 81 points.
