Vijayawada: In an admirable step, Dr Shantha Rao Narne from a business family has donated `1crore for the ‘Anna Canteen’ initiative of the state government in support of the poor.

Shanta Rao’s noble gesture was in the memory of her husband Narne Ranga Rao, who passed away recently. The cheque was handed over to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad by the family members.

“We were inspired by Nara Bhuvaneswari, who donated `1 crore when the Anna Canteens were revived under the present government. A day before my husband passed away, he reminded me about his desire to contribute a sum to the canteen,” she said.

“Fulfilling his wishes, I along with our daughter Adusumilli Deepa the director of Narne Estates and Adusumilli Naresh Kumar the MD of White Field Bio, presented the donation to the state government with the assistance of Narne Gokul, CEO of Narne Group,” she added.

The chief minister praised the generosity of the Narne family and stressed how contributions like these would promote the state’s welfare programmes. Naidu stated on his social media post, "It is a testament to the noble heart of Narne Ranga Rao that… he reminded his wife about the donation …. I extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Narne family for their generous contribution."
