CM promises medicines, ambulance service, food supply to flood victims

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to ensure that ambulance service and other facilities are made available in the flood-hit areas here.

Naidu held a teleconference with ministers and collectors on relief measures in the flood-affected areas on Wednesday.

He said every family affected by floods should get help. Those who died in the floods should be identified and handed over to their families. However, if no one claimed a body, the last rites should be performed on behalf of the government. A medical camp would be set up in every secretariat, he said.

Naidu said every affected family should be provided with essential commodities. “Each family should get 25kg of rice, 1 litre of palm oil, 2kg of onion, 2kg of potato and 1kg sugar. Mobile Rythu Bazaars should be set up and vegetables provided at low prices to the affected people.”

“The government would provide a compensation of `5 lakh to each of the families of the deceased. People should be sensitised through pamphlets on precautions to be taken against fever. Medicine should be made available to everyone in the affected areas. The estimates on crop loss should be provided at the earliest,” Naidu said.

The chief minister, on the consecutive fourth day, toured the flood-affected areas. He went to the houses of the victims in Pipula Road and Vambay Colonies via the Singh Nagar Flyover and Jakkampudi route. He interacted with the residents of Indiramma Colony.

From there, Naidu reached Ajit Singh Nagar, GM Tower, and spoke to the victims. Women told the CM they were facing problems due to mud accumulation from the flood waters in their houses. Naidu promised efforts to clean such houses with fire engines.

“I will provide you with essential commodities from tomorrow (Thursday),” he said.

Several garment showroom managers gathered at GM Tower and raised their issues before the CM. They said all the clothes and other goods in their shops were damaged due to the floods.

Naidu assured the victims that he would remain in Vijayawada till the flood situation eased and life returned to normal.
