VIJAYAWADA: Denizens and commuters of Vijayawada faced severe inconvenience as police prevented vehicles from entering the MG Road (Bandar Road) from Friday morning onwards owing to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiling the Swarna Andhra Vision @2047 document at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium.

City police imposed traffic restrictions and diverted vehicular traffic to alternate routes from as early as 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. As a result, commuters faced discomfort, with two-wheelers, three-wheelers and city buses getting stuck at various points.

Vehicular traffic virtually came to a grinding halt on roads leading to MG Road during the morning hours. A similar situation arose in the evening after the meeting concluded.

“My small pan shop behind the Bapu Museum remained closed until Friday afternoon,” lamented G. Nagarjuna, who hoped to do good business on the day, owing to crowds descending on the city.

K. Ramaniah, an employee of the United India Insurance situated on MG Road, said, “While some of my colleagues did not come to the office, I reached late due to the traffic restrictions.”

Several educational institutions declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the city on Friday, as their buses had been commandeered for the Chief Minister’s programme.
